MODERN DIAMOND · CONSIDERED CHOICE
Lab-grown diamonds are crystallised carbon diamonds created in controlled laboratory conditions. They share the fundamental physical and optical properties associated with mined diamonds, while their origin is different.
UNDERSTANDING THE STONE
Lab-grown diamonds are not cubic zirconia or moissanite. Their crystal is made from carbon, just like mined diamonds. The main distinction is where and how that crystal forms.
For custom jewellery, the conversation can stay focused on the details you actually see: shape, cut, colour, clarity, carat and how the stone belongs in the finished design.

WHAT MAKES IT A DIAMOND
Crystallised carbon in the characteristic diamond structure.
Fire, sparkle and light performance shaped by the quality of the cut.
A hardness of 10 on the Mohs scale, suited to fine jewellery.
Considered using familiar factors: cut, colour, clarity and carat.
HOW THEY ARE CREATED
A diamond seed is placed in a controlled chamber. Carbon-rich gas is activated so carbon can build on the seed, gradually forming diamond crystal.
A diamond seed and carbon source are exposed to high pressure and temperature, reproducing key conditions associated with diamond growth.

CHOOSING YOUR DIAMOND
The proportions and facets that shape how beautifully the diamond returns light.
The presence or absence of colour, considered alongside the metal and setting.
Internal and surface characteristics, balanced with what is visible in the finished piece.
The diamond's weight; shape and proportions also influence its visual presence.
THE STONE GUIDE
Yes. Lab-grown diamonds are crystallised carbon diamonds and share the fundamental physical and optical characteristics associated with mined diamonds.
No. Cubic zirconia and moissanite are different materials used as diamond alternatives. Lab-grown diamond is diamond crystal.
They are two different growth methods. CVD builds diamond crystal from activated carbon-rich gas, while HPHT uses high pressure and high temperature.
Yes. Cut, colour, clarity and carat are useful quality factors when comparing lab-grown diamonds.
Begin with the finished piece. Shape, proportions, cut, colour, clarity, carat, setting and budget should work together rather than being chosen in isolation.
